Editorial Issue 6

Issue 6 of HEP Libraries Webzine has caught up with history by publishing a paper which has lain dormant for almost 40 years.

An analysis dating from 1965 of communication patterns in high-energy physics by Luisella Goldschmidt-Clermont, the pioneer of the organization of preprint libraries, sits alongside a detailed review by Heath O'Connell of the development and evolution of the SLAC HEP databases and archives from 1969 to the present. In the same paper Heath O'Connell also discusses how the virtual library helps physicists work more efficiently by adding value with meta-data such as citation tracking and links to full-text documents. From the discovery of Luisella's historic paper, Jens Vigen ponders on the paradigm shift in scholarly publication.

Bernd Wenger and Michael Jost describe EMIS 2001, the information server network of the European Mathematical Society.

Renato Spigler shares his views on peer reviewing and electronic publishing.
