From May award, 6 Elsevier nuclear physics journals are offering to their authors the option to pay a sponsorship fee to ensure that their
article,
already accepted for publication, is made freely available to non-subscribers via ScienceDirect. This program, called "Sponsored articles", also
includes since
July 2006, some 35 medical journals.

On September 7th, the American Physical Society (APS) has
announced the Open Access initiative "Free To Read". Via this
program,
anyone (authors, readers, institutions, funding agencies, etc.) may, by paying a one-time fee, make articles published in Physical Review A-E, Physical Review Letters, and Reviews of Modern Physics available to all readers at no cost and without a subscription.

Taylor & Francis have announced the introduction of an
"iOpenAccess" option for authors publishing in 175 journals from
T&F's
Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics portfolios.
From October 2006, all authors will have the option to
make their articles freely available to all via the Journal's website
for a one-off fee of $3100.

European Physical journal developments
- In 2006, EPJ A and EPJ C open two new sections, "Reviews" and "Tools for Theory and Experiment", the latter being devoted to papers e.g. on instrumentation, simulation or statistics of immediate relevance to either experiment or theory. Together with the "Letters", "Regular Articles" and "Scientific Notes", EPJ A and EPJ C will thereby become fully integrated publishing platforms for all paper types of relevance to the nuclear and particle physics communities.
- Acta Physica Hungarica A - Heavy Ion Physics has decided to merge with EPJ A as of January 2007.
- Also merging into EPJ D as of January 2007 are the Czechoslovak Journal of Physics (CJoP) and Acta Physica Hungarica B
- Furthermore, a new journal EPJ Special Topics (EPJ ST) will start publication as of January 2007, as a relaunch of the Journal de Physique IV, presently published by the EPJ publishing partners EDP Sciences.
