Editorial Issue 4
In Issue 4 of HEP
Libraries Webzine Jean-Philippe Schmitt reports on the Workshop on
the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) and Peer Review Journals in Europe
held at CERN in Geneva, 22-24 March 2001.
We get a taste from the papers in this Issue of what is under
development or already deployed.
E.Hilf, M. Hohlfeld, T. Severiens and K. Zimmermann report on their
achievements in distributed information systems in physics since
1995.
Simeon Warner gives a tutorial on the OAI metadata harvesting protocol
introduced in January 2001, and Sara Bertocco introduces us to the
Torii portal which is the first prototype of the TIPS Project
currently in the evaluation phase.
Stevan Harnad, Les Carr and Tim Brody are strong proponents of
self-archiving.
Some people fear that too much publishing could lead to fads and
conformity. http://www.iht.com/articles/23414.htm
Publish by all means, but be free not to conform.
