Editorial Issue 8

Welcome to Issue 8 of HEP Libraries Webzine, after the torpor of a long (very) hot summer.

Glenn Haya, Frank Scholze and Jens Vigen introduce us to the Grid Search and Categorization Engine (GRACE) Project. They are developing a search engine that will allow users to search through heterogeneous resources stored in geographically distributed digital collections. GRACE will run on the European Data Grid. This distributed approach is more scalable, can be used on otherwise inaccessible material and can provide customized advanced search options. The decentralized search and categorization engine will process text files, web pages, and text stored in databases.

This is the first in a series of articles on the GRACE Project.

Marko Niinimäki and Vesa Sivunen describe the open-source Meta Data Visualisation (MDV) software that is used as an interface to create databases in XML.

Finally Ulf Rehmann describes the real-life example of an e-journal management and business model - Mathematica Documenta.
